Four Mile Cemetery and General Store, Jackson Co., Ohio

On Saturday, July 13 we also motored down to Four Mile Cemetery in Jackson County, Ohio.

WOW!  This is gorgeous, gorgeous country heading connecting with the Appalachian Highway.   This drive challenged our GPS system!

For those of you old enough to remember, I was humming the theme song from Deliverance....sure that we would be kidnapped at any moment and never be seen again!

Ok, I'm a little overdramatic....BUT, I was reassured to see that we had entered Amish country and the first stop was an amazing, amazing general store.  They are known for their amazing donuts, their carved wood items, and their wonderful canned products.  Some of you will be getting a jar of plum butter or preserves!  We ate the donut -- well, I ate 1/3 and Shirley ate 2/3!!!

The store is only open three days a week and we just lucked out to be there on the right day!   If you want to take a look go to Yelp and look for Four Mile Bakery and General Store (6005 Four Mile Road, Jackson County, Ohio).

The real reason for the trip was to visit the cemetery where our ggg grandparents, Samuel Claar and Lydia Stropes Claar are buried along with many other Claar relatives.

Samuel lived from 1800-1890.  He had nine children with Lydia and after Lydia's death, he married Hannah Trexler and became a father again at age 73.  Samuel was born in Bedford County, PA and moved to Jackson County in 1820 with his parents.  Many other Claar relatives are buried here.

For family reading this, here's how our line goes:
