Harrison House and Indianapolis

We drove to the state capital in Indiana and drove around and around the block trying to find a park on a Sunday morning.
Each capitol building we have seen represents their state in a different way and takes such pride in the building and the beautiful grounds surrounding this special government location.
Next we went to the Benjamin Harrison House and were transported back to 1874 when this house was built for Ben and his wife Caroline.
This house was the place where Ben accepted the nomination to become the 23rd president and where he ultimately died in his bed.Other places we have visited this summer have not allowed us to take pictures and thus we had to rely on our memories to describe the wonderful things we were seeing on the tour.

Surprisingly this tour allowed us to take pictures without flash and to get up close to items in the house where 80% of the contents belonged to the Harrison Family.

Little known facts: Caroline Harrison loved to paint

and started displays of the White House china.
Ben with youngest daughter Elizabeth

Ben loved small children and would often pull the high chair of his children and grandchildren beside the adult dinner table. Caroline Harrison had the first Presidential Christmas tree in the White House.

Ben was only 5 feet 6 inches tall, the same as me!
Come on in!
Caroline was less than 5 feet tall. Notice the Flag purse? Kay and I needed these this summer! What an amazing visit!
